FAQ
Common questions
What is a production system?
A production system is a distinct application or service you operate — one license covers it entirely, however many servers, environments, or team members are behind it. A few examples:
· A SaaS product with a web app, mobile app, and API → one production system (same product, same users)
· All internal tooling your team uses → one production system (internal use counts as one, however many tools)
· A second product serving a different customer base → a separate production system
A $2M company shipping one product pays $299/yr total.
What counts as commercial use?
Running Lpdf in production: in a product or service others use, or in your company's live internal tools. Development, testing, CI and staff-only staging aren't production, and are free at any company size. Personal projects, open-source projects and non-profits are free in production too.
Can I try Lpdf before buying?
Yes, for as long as you need. Lpdf is free outside production at any company size. Get a free Community key to remove the attribution line, or run it without a key and the line stays. No credit card, no time limit.
What happens when my license key expires?
PDF generation keeps working — the app never breaks. When a key expires, the attribution line ("Made with Lpdf") reappears on generated PDFs until you renew. Community and Professional keys expire shortly after the end of your license term: 7 days after for Community, 30 days after for Professional. After you renew, generate new keys from the portal. Enterprise keys have no expiry date — they are valid for the current major version of Lpdf. An expired key means unlicensed use: fine outside production, and in production for anyone who qualifies for Community. Organizations that need Professional or Enterprise need an active license to keep running in production.
Do I need to rotate my license key?
Community and Professional need a new key each term: generate it from the portal after you renew, and deploy it like any config value. Enterprise keys are version-locked: the same key works until a new major version of Lpdf is released, at which point you generate a new key from the portal as part of the upgrade. No calendar-driven rotation for Enterprise.
Is there a self-hosted option?
Lpdf runs entirely on your infrastructure — there's no cloud dependency and no data leaves your servers. Professional and Enterprise both include full self-hosted use.
How do I know which tier I need?
Only production use needs a paid tier, and your annual gross revenue decides which: Community (free) under $1M, Professional from $1M to $10M, Enterprise above $10M. Individuals, open-source projects and non-profits stay on Community at any size. All tiers include the full engine with no feature differences.
